If you can find Froggy Goes to School by Jonathan London at the library, check out the book. In this book Froggy has a dream that he forgets to get dressed for school and goes to school in his underwear. Have you ever had a dream like this? Let’s hope you haven’t gone to work in your underwear or let your child, but sometimes all the “to do’s” of the day make me so worried and anxious if I’ve done everything. I often turn around and go back home because I can’t remember if I’ve turned off the iron!
As you’ve prepared for the school year, I’m sure you’ve worked extra hard to make sure they are prepared! Though the author doesn’t say this, I do think Froggy did forget something very important. As important as it is to remember all the things for school, parents are responsible for also preparing the minds and hearts of their children each day. You’re not likely to forget to put on their school clothes, but it’s easy to forget to prepare their heart and mind because you can’t see them. The Bible tells us
“Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.” Joshua 1:8
This verse tells us how we can do good and be happy in school, at home, and wherever we are. It tells us to study God’s words day and night. What are some ideas? Beginning September 5, I will be posting scripture for your children to memorize each week. A good time to practice this is in the morning on the way to school or at night before they go to bed. There will be short verses for the younger children and longer ones for the older children. Let’s prepare our children!
